It’s always nice when celebrities offer up an opinion that’s different from the mainstream liberal narrative. Unfortunately, that rarely happens. It seems like basically 100% of everyone in the sports and entertainment world is a liberal.
On Wednesday, Hall of Fame basketball player Shaquille O’Neal gave conservatives something to be happy about.
Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal has supported the police for years — being sworn in as a sheriff’s deputy in 2016 and saying he’ll run for sheriff in a few years — so his answer to ending school shootings is additional support for cops, not a ban on guns.
“The government should give law enforcement more money,” he said on WABC Radio’s “Curtis and Cosby” show on Wednesday. “Give more money, you recruit more people, and the guys that are not ready to go on the streets, you put them in front of the schools. You put ’em in front of the schools, you put ’em behind the schools, you put ’em inside the schools, and we need to pass information. … I would like to see police officers in schools, inner cities, private schools.”
From The Daily Caller:
It’s 2018 and something needs to happen. You know you hear a lot of people talk about getting these guns off the streets. Only problem with that is there’s 15 million already on the streets. And the other problem is that if you ban them, you’re going to create an underground market, and the gun collectors – you know it’s going to become more valuable. I just think – I think the quick fix now – is that the government should give law enforcement more money. And you recruit more people. And the guys that are not ready to go on the streets, you put them in the schools. You put ’em in front of the schools, you put ’em behind the schools, you put them inside the schools. I grew up on a military base, and there was always military police in front of the school… and we didn’t have a lot of 3 PM fights.
The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
From Fox News:
A 2014 FBI report claims that only once between 2000 and 2013 did a concealed handgun permit holder stop a public shooting (they claimed to look at all cases where guns were fired in public that weren’t part of a gang fight or some other crime). This single case occurred in Winnemucca, Nevada in May 2008, when a customer with a permit fatally shot an attacker who had just killed two people. They didn’t even include the 2007 church shooting in Colorado Springs, where a killer had already taken two lives at the church before being stopped by a permit holder.
This false claim just shows how politicized the FBI became under the Obama administration. Many times, police, sheriffs, and prosecutors have gone on the record and credited permit holders with saving many lives. These attacks didn’t get national news attention, but they would have been on front pages everywhere if a permit holder hadn’t intervened.
There are countless examples of people using guns in self-defense at their homes or workplaces. But I want to focus on a much narrower set of cases where permit holders stopped public shootings. Here are 10 additional recent cases.
Props to Shaq on this one.
